Farm Organically at the highlands & lowlands of Pare Mountains
Kilimanjaro
The farm was started in 1940s, it has been a home of Mngulu family. The Patriarch of the family being Thadei Seraphine Mngulu. He lives in the farm with his son Seraphine, his daughter Rose and other relatives who comes to stay and help out with farm activities. We are located on the sides of Pare Mountains in Ntenga village, Northern part of Tanzania, about 150 kms South of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The core of our Organic farm project is to be self sufficient and Sustainable with environmental friendly farming methods. We are surrounded by friendly neighbors with the passion of meeting new friends in the community around.
Typical farming activities includes, land cultivation using local tools as the land is still worked in a very local methods without the use of modern day machinery. Most activities are done with man power using tools such as a panga (Bush Knife) and jembe (hand hoe), other activities include planting, weeding, harvesting and cooking. We would like to teach WWOOFers, the local methods of farming Organically. Working hours per day may take from 4-6 hours on the farm, while the other extra hours may include hiking The Pare mountains, nature walk, exercises, visiting and talking to people (Neighbors) around as one way of learning and experiencing our culture.
WWOOFers will be living together with our family (Local Lifestyle), sharing the same family food for the time agreed to stay.
I like hiking the nearby Pare mountains, visiting places of nature like Mkomazi National park which is close to our family house (Mngulu Family). I like meeting new people, sharing experience, knowledge and skills on Sustainable Organic Projects

My two colleagues and I were lucky enough to stay at the family farm for a bit over a week in relation to our collaboration on our bachelor thesis. It has truly been one of the greatest pleasures to be a part of the home helping cooking, working, and learning of organic agriculture practices.
The process was smooth all the way, as Seraphine and his family helped us arrange parts of the logistics. All the way through they provided a great support and hospitality.
We got to help plant coffee beans, cut grass, cook, join the local church, go to the market, hike the Pare Mountain to visit the neighbourgh farm, and many other things.
We can only give the warmest recommendations for visiting this beautiful place, and we have a sense that you will be left with the exact same longing sensation for visiting again.
All the best,
Alberte & Clara

A lovely visit at Gonja Mwala farm with my study group has been concluded. Me and my two friends/study colleagues reached out to Seraphine in hope that we could have a meaningful setting to study for our bachelor's thesis. Boy, were we blown away by the kindness of our hosts and the environment that their farm operates in. My experience at Gonja Mwala farm satisfied my core in a very nourishing way. So many lessons learned, and bonds created.
The expression "pole pole", meaning to not rush anything, and slow down a notch, embodied in the culture, has been brought back to Copenhagen with me.
I hope to one day return. And it feels unlikely that I wouldn't.

I had the chance to stay almost two weeks on Seraphine's family farm. It is located in Paré mountain, the place is wonderful. It was a very rich experience and one of the most beautiful in terms of human experience. Seraphine and his family welcomed me like a member of their family. I was able to learn and ask all the questions about their agriculture, their way of life, I was also able to learn to cook locally and have many exchanges and discussions.
Thanks to the whole family.

I stayed on Gonja Mwala Farm with Seraphine and his family members for a week and simply had the best time! Everyone was so nice and welcomed me as a part of the family and it truly felt like I was a family member at the end of the week. During the stay I got to help with coffee planting and preparing, cooking and house cleaning. It was a very good experience to get an inside view into Tanzanian rural lifestyle and getting to know how to cook proper Tanzanian meals. We had a lot of fun together and could also talk about our different cultural backgrounds as well as organic farming. Thank you so much again to Seraphine and everyone on the farm, who made my time so so good, I am still missing everyone! I can very much recommend a stay there 😊
