My two daughters, ages 9 and 11, and I stayed with Joseph, his wife, and their two sweet, funny, and intelligent daughters this past July 2025 for two weeks in their home closer to Dar es Salaam. We helped teach English in a preschool close by, and traveled with them to a nearby farm they are working to expand. July was rice harvest season and I got to help with some harvesting. I am forever grateful to Joseph and his family for making us feel like a part of their family, and for helping us to integrate into their cultural practices. I especially loved cooking with his wife Flora, going to markets and to Church together, and my girls loved playing with his daughters and the neighborhood children! If you have any questions, Joseph is extremely helpful and is really trying to do good in the world with his orphanage. I wish I could share photos with this review because we made so many memories together! ♥️🇹🇿 Asante sana Joseph! (Thank you so much!)

Staying with David and his family has been a wonderful experience, better than I could’ve ever hoped for. The work is never too much, and was diverse, useful to the farm. The living conditions were great: my room that I sometimes shared with another girl was perfect, with working bathroom. The food was always correct, I was always full. Finally, the best part of my experience was the family. I felt so welcome by David, his amazing wife Stella, and the rest of the very big family. I felt very included in all their activities, playing with the kids or being invited to a traditional birthday ! They even helped arranging everything I wished for: from braiding my hair or tailoring a dress for me, to bringing me on coffee tour or other expeditions. To note that David is a tour guide and therefore helped to arrange a 4 days safari for me: truly a highlight of my trip and something I will never forget. Finally, David and everyone, asante sana for the wonderful 4 weeks.

My stay at David’s Farm was my first woofing experience, and it was truly wonderful. Working in agriculture was a lot of fun. David’s older sons supported the farm work, which was really cool to see. We worked with banana plants, fed the cows, loosened the soil, planted new bananas, and milked the cows. I even learned how to milk a cow for the first time. The children were very nice and funny, and they made the farm stay especially fun in the afternoons when the work was finished. We also went on nature walks together, which I really enjoyed. The room was very clean and big for a woofing room, and the food was delicious. I even learned a little Swahili during my stay. Thank you so much, David, and thank you to your whole farm and family. My first woofing stay with you was very special. Asante sana!

We stayed at this project for three weeks, from December 6, 2025 to January 3, 2026, and had a very positive experience overall. The atmosphere was very relaxed, open, and welcoming from the first day. Our main tasks were helping design and work on a new garden and park layout for the new school building, as well as teaching basic English to young children from kindergarten up to class 2. The work was never overwhelming — usually around 2 to 4 hours per day — and there was plenty of flexibility, including regular break days. Taking a few days off to go on our own small adventures was no problem at all. Luka is an excellent host and project director. He made sure we had everything we needed at all times, including food, accommodation, and support with transportation. We ate together as a group, which created a strong family-like feeling with the teachers, workers, and children. Communication was easy in English, and learning some Swahili along the way was a nice bonus. The project is a great fit for volunteers who enjoy a laid-back environment, working with children, and contributing to sustainable gardening or permaculture ideas without strict schedules or pressure. The location also offers opportunities to visit nearby national parks and cultural sites. We felt very welcome and appreciated, and we would recommend this project to volunteers who are looking for a meaningful but flexible experience in southern Tanzania.

I've been 3 weeks in October at the farm in Arusha. Gerald picked me up and brought me there, he was very helpful and nice and answered all my questions. But I have to say I have been surprised because the farm is from friends of Gerald and the rooms and house are looking different because it's not the same as in the pictures. After bringing me there he introduced me to the family. Ezekiel the owner of the farm, his wife Mama Busara and his daughter Hekima. The family welcomed me with open arms and they all where very kind. And even as vegetarian worked for me because they cooked very delicious vegetarian food 😊 My days at the farm started early in the morning. I helped taking care of the pigs and the cows cleaning their stables and feeding them. I liked the work with the animals very much :) After that we went out to the fields next to the farm. We prepared the fields for planting and we have done planting after that too. Some times I did my work alone but it was absolutely fine for me :) .Most of the time someone was with me at my work. So I always had somebody to talk to and I got all my questions answered and learned new things about farming. Gerald and also Ezekiel always were ready for showing me around in and around Arusha. Hekima has been really good talking partner and as for me I see her as my very dear friend :D I definitely enjoyed the stay at the farm and Ezekiels family. I would absolutely do it again and can recommend it to everyone who is interested :D

Could not ask for a better WWOOFing experience! I spent about a month on the farm. David and his family are very kind and take very good care of their volunteers. They have been working with international volunteer for many years. The food was good and I was given my own room and bathroom. I was never overworked. This was my first experience WWOOFing and it was a very postive one. Had a lot of good discussions with the family. They made me feel a part of their family in the short time I was there. I hope to come back and visit soon!

I was really excited when i planned my trip to tanzania and i didn´t knew what to excpect, because it was my first time in Africa. But i would never have excpected such an open and warm welcome like at Joseph´s place! From the first second´s it felt like a second home. I had not only the opportunity to experience the african life in it´s most authentic way, but also to make friends for life. We learned a lot about nature and plants working at the farm and experienced the life in Tanzania by going to church, cooking authentic meals with Flora and making amazing trips with Joseph and his family. We also had the opportunity to help teaching kids at the local school and play cardgames and football with Josephs and the neighbours kids in the afternoon. On the weekend we went to the national park, to the beach, to the museum, visiting the Maasai and a lot more! Thanks again to Joseph, who is really a special person with a big heart and his wonderful family for this amazing experience and hospitality, i will never forget this trip! Asante sana! Manuel

It was my first whoof experience and it was truly amazing. I wish I could have stayed longer. Joseph is someone that has a heart of gold and I spend such good time with him, his team and his family. He just became a friend. I had a room for myself, with mosquito net, and even WiFi when Joesph was at home. Flora, his wife, is very nice and cooks amazing food and very opens to teach you. I had the choice to work either in the fields for few hours in the morning or with the kids at school. Eventually, I feel like I spent more time having discussions with Joesph and enjoying life than working. I recommend 100% visiting Joesph and his family !

Staying with Joseph, his wife Flora, and their kids Ruth and Rieke was an unforgettable and heartwarming experience. From the first day, they welcomed us so warmly that I felt like part of their family. It’s a genuine local experience — Joseph includes you in his daily life, whether going to church, helping on the farm, or visiting friends. Cooking with Flora was a highlight — she’s an amazing cook. We often prepared Tanzanian meals together. After work, neighborhood kids came to play, and once a week the lively local market offered everything from fruits and spices to souvenirs. Ruth and Rieke are super polite, smart, and open-hearted, and Joseph’s friend Joshua always brought great energy and laughter. Farm work was enjoyable and never too hard — mostly planting or watering vegetables, always with time for breaks. Visiting the School was inspiring and full of smiles; we helped the kids with writing and counting and played together during breaks. I learned so much about Tanzanian life and culture and admired how calm and kind everyone was — I never once heard anyone get angry. Weekends were something special — I won’t spoil too much, but let’s just say: safari! Joseph is open-minded, flexible, and always happy to make your ideas happen. If you love music, you’ll enjoy the local rehearsals and beautiful live music at church. Thank you, Joseph, Flora, Ruth, and Rieke, for this unforgettable time. I’ll never forget you and will always keep you close to my heart.

Where to start about this magical time? We had never been to Tanzania before but Joseph and his family and team managed to make us feel right at home in just two weeks! From the day we arrived we were treated with the greatest hospitality we have ever experienced, Joseph helped with each and every concern. Our work consisted of helping at their small farm, but it didn't even feel like work because of all the fun we had! Eating sugarcane and coconut, telling stories and sharing ideas (the people at the farm have an exceptional mentality towards happiness and helping, we learnt a lot!). We felt that every idea of ours was appreciated! At home, we relaxed or sometimes helped washing the dishes or we accompanied Joseph's wife Flora to the market where she patiently helped buy souvenirs. :) Also we shopped for the meals we shared everyday, which were the best meals we ever had... A few times Flora even taught us how to prepare some things. She is the most lovely and talented woman ever!! And don't even get us started on their wonderful daughters - we still miss them so much as we played rounds and rounds of UNO and got our hair dressed :) Joseph, you made so many of our dreams come true. From the safari to your orphanage project to the excursion to Dar - you were the best host we could ask for and your family became our family. We love you all so much! Asante sana!

We stayed as a family with Lilian and Abel and had a great time. In fact, we ended up staying a few days longer than planned. Both of our kids were able to contribute in some ways to the work and enjoyed their experiences immensely. We were able to stay at the family home and got to work by car with Abel or by bus with Lilian. We always had meals together with the family (and other volunteers). We even had some spontaneous dance sessions :-). Work was varied and we usually could choose if we wanted to work at the school or in the garden. Everyone and especially the kids at the school were very welcoming; our son became good friends with Lilian and Abel’s son, which was lovely. Abel also helped us to organise a safari over the weekend and to discover the sights in the area (he also runs a tour company, so can organise tours to places you want to see). All in all - I think we will be back!
