August 2025
We stayed as a family with Lilian and Abel and had a great time. In fact, we ended up staying a few days longer than planned. Both of our kids were able to contribute in some ways to the work and enjoyed their experiences immensely. We were able to stay at the family home and got to work by car with Abel or by bus with Lilian. We always had meals together with the family (and other volunteers). We even had some spontaneous dance sessions :-). Work was varied and we usually could choose if we wanted to work at the school or in the garden. Everyone and especially the kids at the school were very welcoming; our son became good friends with Lilian and Abel’s son, which was lovely. Abel also helped us to organise a safari over the weekend and to discover the sights in the area (he also runs a tour company, so can organise tours to places you want to see).
All in all - I think we will be back!

I've stayed at Lilian and Abel for 2,5 weeks. It was a very good and nice experience.
Lilian and Abel have done a very good job with de school. The children there are very happy and respectful. As a volunteer you can do a lot of different things. I mostly helped the teachers in the school. You can help the teachers by introducing games, helping the children to write and much more. I also helped a little bit with gardening in the garden by the new school they are building.
One thing I really enjoyed about this volunteering project was how Lilian and Abel involve you as a volunteer to the team. They were interested in our thoughts and were open for new ideas to better the school evenmore.
The accommodation was great. For the volunteers there is a special part of the house with a living room and bathroom. You can get enough time for yourself. But if you want to have some fun, the children of Abel and Lilian are always in to play games or to sing and dance with you. Also the food was always very nice.
I would really recommend this project. Because you get introduced in the local life of Tanzanian people and you will learn a lot about how things work here.

We had a very nice time at the Lift Them Up Foundation. We spent nearly a week working in the pre-school and in the garden of the future school. We enjoyed learning how to plant banana trees and helping the teachers who do a fantastic job with the children.
We were hosted by Lilian, Abel and their three children. We had really nice evenings cooking, eating and playing cards together.
Thank you again and we wish you all the best for your future projects and the bigger school !

My wife and I spent about a week with Lilian and Abel working at the preschool and in the garden. We had an incredible experience staying with them and navigating life in the Arusha area. They were so helpful as we began to figure out how to get around and enjoy local things to do. As a smaller farm, the work varied from day to day. One day we worked on the property fence, another day we prepared soil and planted starts, another day we worked with the kids in the preschool learning English, etc. Be prepared to do whatever is most helpful to them at the time! Abel also runs a tourism company, so you can hire him to take you on some excursions during your stay.

Cdt Luc SCOTTO
