Is a volunteer initiative uniting people to create positive change through compassion and teamwork
Arusha
My name is Gerald, and I live in the beautiful city of Arusha, Tanzania—known as the gateway to famous destinations like Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Crater. I lead a community project called Together We Can, which focuses on empowering local communities through education, childcare, environmental conservation, and sustainable agriculture.
Volunteers also take part in farming activities, where they gain hands-on experience in growing vegetables, maintaining green gardens, and learning about organic farming methods. These agricultural initiatives promote food security, youth employment, and practical skills for daily life.
I live with my family, and we warmly welcome volunteers from around the world into our home. We live together as one family—sharing meals, daily tasks, meaningful conversations, and a spirit of love and unity.
This project offers a unique opportunity for anyone who wants to make a difference, learn new skills, and experience the true beauty of Tanzanian culture in a peaceful and natural setting
Our Typical Farming Activities & What We Share with WWOOFers
At our small farm in Arusha, Tanzania, we focus on sustainable and organic farming practices that support both our community and the environment. Our typical activities include:
- Preparing garden beds
- Planting and watering vegetables like spinach, tomatoes, onions, carrots, and green peppers
- Composting and organic fertilizer preparation
- Weeding and natural pest control
- Harvesting fresh produce
- Maintaining banana, avocado, and papaya trees
We believe in farming that respects nature, so we use traditional and eco-friendly methods that can be taught to anyone, regardless of farming experience. WWOOFers who join us will learn how to grow food organically, manage soil health, and practice permaculture techniques that can be applied anywhere in the world.
A Typical Day on the Farm:
7:30 AM – Breakfast with the family
8:30 AM – Morning farm work (watering, weeding, planting, or harvesting)
12:00 PM – Break for lunch and rest
2:00 PM – Afternoon activities (composting, preparing beds, or helping in the nursery)
4:30 PM – Free time to relax, explore the area, or join in cultural exchange
6:30 PM – Dinner and reflections on the day
We love working side by side, sharing ideas, and learning from one another. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, we’ll guide you with warmth, patience, and a lot of joy.
Accommodation & Meals for WWOOFers
WWOOFers staying with us will be welcomed into a safe, simple, and comfortable home in Arusha. We offer shared or private rooms depending on availability, each with a bed, mosquito net, and basic furnishings. Clean bathrooms with running water and showers are available, and we maintain a warm, family-style atmosphere where everyone feels at home.
Meals are provided three times a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We serve delicious Tanzanian home-cooked meals made from fresh local ingredients, often including fruits and vegetables from our own garden. We are happy to accommodate vegetarian or vegan diets as well.
Living and working together offers a beautiful chance for cultural exchange, story telling, and shared laughter around the dinner table. WWOOFers are treated like family, and we do our best to ensure everyone feels respected, supported, and inspired during their stay.
Our Hobbies & Nearby Activities
In our free time, we love listening to music—especially reggae, bongo, and other local African styles. We also enjoy cooking and sharing traditional Tanzanian meals with our guests. If you love to cook or want to learn, you're always welcome in our kitchen!
There’s also plenty to explore nearby. Arusha is surrounded by beautiful nature and offers many outdoor activities:
- Hiking in nearby hills and waterfalls
- Cultural visits to Maasai villages
- Swimming at local pools and natural springs
- Weekend trips to national parks like Tarangire or Lake Manyara
- Exploring markets and local art shops in Arusha town
We love showing visitors around and helping them experience the real beauty of Tanzania—both its nature and its people.

December 2025
I've been 3 weeks in October at the farm in Arusha.
Gerald picked me up and brought me there, he was very helpful and nice and answered all my questions.
But I have to say I have been surprised because the farm is from friends of Gerald and the rooms and house are looking different because it's not the same as in the pictures.
After bringing me there he introduced me to the family. Ezekiel the owner of the farm, his wife Mama Busara and his daughter Hekima.
The family welcomed me with open arms and they all where very kind. And even as vegetarian worked for me because they cooked very delicious vegetarian food 😊
My days at the farm started early in the morning. I helped taking care of the pigs and the cows cleaning their stables and feeding them. I liked the work with the animals very much :)
After that we went out to the fields next to the farm. We prepared the fields for planting and we have done planting after that too.
Some times I did my work alone but it was absolutely fine for me :) .Most of the time someone was with me at my work. So I always had somebody to talk to and I got all my questions answered and learned new things about farming.
Gerald and also Ezekiel always were ready for showing me around in and around Arusha.
Hekima has been really good talking partner and as for me I see her as my very dear friend :D
I definitely enjoyed the stay at the farm and Ezekiels family. I would absolutely do it again and can recommend it to everyone who is interested :D
