Hello WWOOfers, my name is Ally and am 42 years . Together with my partner Kajumulo we grow tomato and beans by means of irrigation near lukosi river. We live in Mtandika Sokoni, Ruaha Mbuyuni ward, Kilolo district - Iringa region.
We use irrigation method of farming, we would like WWOOFers to learn from us, how to manage farm projects using local organic methods under irrigation system through out the year. We also work with poultry project, from which we apply the best local methods of raising chickens depending on nature.
General activities at the farm includes; land cultivation using cattle ploughing method, local tools like hand hoes (Jembe - local name), panga and more, we also do weeding, planting, preparing seed beds, irrigation, feeding chickens and harvesting.
We take breakfast, lunch and dinner together, we eat the food available here like rice, ugali (local food), beans, vegetables, potatoes and they are sweet
Iringa is one of the regions in Tanzania with national parks like Ruaha National Park (The largest in Tanzania), Udzungwa National parks with mountains and game reserves. WWOOFers will have an opportunity of exploring the beautiful nature of Tanzania specifically in Iringa region, as we live not far from Udzungwa National park, just about 6kms, Mikumi National park 100kms. During free time, there is an opportunity of hiking Muhefu Mountain just 3kms from home. Visiting and experiencing the local and traditional dancing styles from local tribe (Wasagala).
